The Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester County (LVGC) is the only organization of its kind providing free, one-on-one adult tutoring to those with the lowest level of literacy - below a 5th grade level. For over 25 years, we have served over 200 Gloucester County residents per year with an all volunteer cadre of individuals. We are accredited by ProLiteracy America, the only national accreditation system in the adult education and literacy field.
Volunteers from all walks of life receive 15 hours of training by certified trained instructors. Upon completion, volunteer tutors are matched with students who desperately need help in either Basic Literacy or English as a Second Language. On a daily basis, our students struggle with activities like reading a note from their child's teacher, communicating with their doctor, or filling out a job application. The student-centered lessons provide our students with needed skills in reading, writing and communication.
If you are looking for a fulfilling and flexible volunteer opportunity and a unique way to give back to your community, please contact us at 856-218-4743 or email us at info@literacyvgc.org.
